Mage — The Mage beta uses Mana and divides its talents into Arcane, Fire, and Frost. Several talents name spells associated with more than one school, so reading the precise affected-spell list is useful when comparing paths.[1]

Choose a reading path
The following is an editorial route through the beta source, not a recommended point allocation.[1]
| Talent tree | What to compare | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Arcane | Arcane casts, resource management, and effects that change how a spell is delivered. Inspect the interaction between Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage. | Arcane Blast, Missile Barrage, Presence of Mind, Arcane Power |
| Fire | Critical strikes, follow-up casts, and Mana recovery. Some talents also name Frostfire Bolt or non-Fire abilities. | Wake of Fire, Hot Streak, Master of Elements, Combustion |
| Frost | Chills, frozen-target interactions, and protective cooldowns. A target being treated as Frozen is a separate condition from being physically rooted. | Shatter, Fingers of Frost, Cold Snap, Ice Barrier |
Abilities and changes worth checking
These are summarized from the pinned beta-client export. Baseline spells and talents are identified separately where the source supports that distinction.[1]
- Comprehend Scroll. The source reports an in-game trainer check at Maginor Dumas in Stormwind, finding this ability at level 6. This is the source author's observation; this wiki has not repeated the check, and a complete usable-scroll list remains unverified.
- Frostfire Bolt. Named in the beta ability notes and multiple talents. Check the exact talent text instead of assuming every Fire and Frost bonus applies.
- Ice Lance and Arcane Blast. These have talent pages in the snapshot. A familiar name from another WoW edition does not establish baseline access in Forever.
Understand the casting interactions
These examples interpret source-reported beta-client descriptions. All talent ranks in this snapshot are explicitly flagged as client data; this is stronger evidence than the earlier estimated demo ranks, but does not establish tested gameplay. Damage shown by the export can depend on its reference character. See individual talent pages for exact ranks and conditions.[1]
Arcane: build a bonus, then choose how to spend it
The beta-client Arcane Blast description increases the damage of other spells while increasing its own Mana cost. Its recorded limits are four stacks and eight seconds, ending early when another damaging spell is cast. Under that description, repeated casts build a more expensive setup for a different damaging spell. The recorded 175% increase applies to Mana cost, not Arcane Blast's own damage; actual behavior still needs testing.[1]
The beta-client Missile Barrage description allows triggers from Arcane Blast, Fireball, Frostbolt, or Frostfire Bolt. It describes a faster next Arcane Missiles channel without a Mana cost. If gameplay matches the tooltip, this creates a decision between continuing the setup and using an available proc. A free finishing channel does not refund the Mana spent building stacks, so evaluate the whole sequence rather than only the final cast.[1]
Fire: count the qualifying criticals
The beta-client Hot Streak description specifies non-periodic criticals from its named spells. Its recorded values are a 25% Pyroblast cast-time reduction per stack, up to three stacks lasting 15 seconds. Under those source values, the maximum reduction would be 75%, rather than an automatic instant Pyroblast. Periodic damage is excluded from the described trigger. Wake of Fire supplies a separate bonus to the next Fire Blast after a qualifying kill; check whether a kill actually meets its condition before planning around that bonus.[1]
Frost: a Frozen condition is different from a root
At source-confirmed rank 2, Fingers of Frost gives Chill effects a 15% chance to make the next two spell casts treat the target as Frozen. That enables examining Shatter and Ice Lance without assuming the enemy is physically immobilized. The source-confirmed rank-3 Improved Blizzard beta tooltip records a 40% slow lasting 1.5 seconds. Control duration, movement speed, and damage are distinct considerations when arranging a safe pull.[1]
Frostfire: inspect each affected-spell list
The export names Frostfire Bolt in Improved Fireball, Hot Streak, and Missile Barrage. That supports specific cross-tree interactions, not a fourth talent tree or an assumption that every Fire and Frost effect applies. The beta spell record now states that Frostfire Bolt checks the lower of the target's Frost and Fire resistances and counts as both schools. It lists initial acquisition at level 40; the wiki has not tested that interaction in-game.[1]
Corrections when comparing previews
Icy Veins' spell-change section gives Arcane Blast a 175% damage increase; the beta-client description assigns that increase to Mana cost. Its Fingers of Frost and Improved Blizzard figures also differ: 30% and 45%, versus source-confirmed 15% and 40%. The wiki preserves each record's separate confidence level.[2][1]
Plan a beta test
Beta issue: incoming damage can produce full-damage Arcane Missiles bolts instead of truncated bolts.[3]
These are suggested checks for learning the class and collecting useful evidence; they are not claims about the strongest build.
- For Frost, distinguish an actual crowd-control effect from the Fingers of Frost condition when recording an interaction.
- For Fire, track the triggering event and the next affected spell separately; a critical-strike interaction may be conditional.
- For Arcane, record the Mana cost as well as damage when comparing an empowered cast with the ordinary version.
Race choice
Use the Mage race list to separate officially announced additions from the broader beta roster. Follow the linked race guides for recorded racials; a racial tooltip does not establish a universal best choice.
What remains unresolved
Final spell coefficients, practical area-pull limits, resistance behavior, and level-60 specialization rankings are not established by the transcription. This guide does not recommend a mass-pulling route.
For corrections, record the game build, character level, spell or talent rank, and the observed interaction. Follow Project:Data policy and compare against Mage talents before replacing beta information.
