Beta source guide · reviewed 19 September 2026. Talent and selected spell descriptions below use source-reported client data for build 1.60.1.69876. This wiki has not independently tested the interactions in-game. Known issues can make gameplay differ from tooltips.

Paladin — The Paladin beta combines Mana, weapon attacks, Holy damage, healing, and shield tools. Its Holy, Protection, and Retribution trees share several abilities, so a tree name alone does not describe every supported interaction.[1]

Browse all 52 Paladin talents with icons, ranks, prerequisites, and individual source notes.

For source-listed learning levels 1–20, see Paladin spellbook. Its tables exclude Classic fallback tooltips and explain the source’s level-60 tooltip context.

Choose a reading path

The following is an editorial route through the beta source, not a recommended point allocation.[1]

Talent tree What to compare Start with
Holy Healing and spell support, with Holy Strike and Holy Shock also represented. Inspect what each talent affects before treating it as a healing-only choice. Healing Light, Reverence, Holy Shock, Light's Vigil
Protection Seals, shields, Holy Strike threat, and defensive cooldowns. Read the active-condition text, especially requirements involving Righteous Fury. Improved Seal of Fury, Sacred Duty, Templar's Bulwark, Iron Creed, Holy Shield
Retribution Melee attacks, Seals, Judgement, and Holy spell interactions. Mana costs and the timing of Seal effects are part of the comparison. Vindication, Sanctified Judgement, Sacred Arbiter, Champion of the Light, Twist of Light

Abilities and changes worth checking

These are summarized from the pinned beta-client export. Baseline spells and talents are identified separately where the source supports that distinction.[1]

  • Judgement and Seal of Fury. The beta transcription says Judgement leaves the active Seal in place; judging Seal of Fury supplies the taunt. Read these together when planning how to recover an enemy attacking an ally.
  • Holy Strike. Recorded as a baseline weapon strike with a Holy component. Different trees then modify its cooldown, threat, or interaction with other effects.
  • Blessing of Kings and Consecration. Both appear as trainable abilities in the beta export rather than purchases in these talent trees.

How the new tools support each role

Blizzard explicitly announces Holy Strike at level 6 and baseline Consecration at level 20. Paladins still lack an interrupt and broad slowing tools; arrange coverage with other party members instead of assuming the new tanking kit supplies them.[2]

The interactions below use source-reported beta-client descriptions, not independently tested gameplay. All talent ranks are now explicitly identified as client data. That resolves earlier missing-rank estimates without proving a rotation, output figure, or bug-free interaction.[1]

Protection: prepare the taunt and its recovery

Seal of Fury supplies Judgement's taunt. The recorded Seal also provides an absorb when a shield is equipped. Swift Judgement finishes Judgement's cooldown and makes the next cast free, allowing another attempt when the ability is unavailable. It does not remove the need to have the appropriate Seal active.[1]

The beta-client Improved Seal of Fury description restores Mana when its shield is fully absorbed; Shield Specialization describes Mana recovery through blocks with a three-second limit between returns. These are different triggers, so merely having a shield equipped would not guarantee continuous recovery. Iron Creed requires Righteous Fury for Holy Strike's short defensive benefit. The beta-client Templar's Bulwark description applies Forbearance and prevents use while it is present; include that restriction when planning a test of defensive cooldowns.[1]

Holy: choose the target before combining spells

The beta-client Infusion of Light description links Holy Shock or Flash of Light critical hits to a shorter Holy Light cast. The beta-client Light's Vigil description links a setup cast to the next Holy Shock on the marked target: an ally would trigger healing for that ally's party, while an enemy would trigger damage and a partial Mana refund. Its recorded limit is one active Vigil per Paladin per party. This suggests a targeted party-healing sequence to test, not a promise that one cast heals an entire raid.[1]

Retribution: separate weapon and spell bonuses

Twist of Light stores an echo of the replaced eligible Seal for the next melee attack. The next swing can therefore carry the old Seal's effect after another Seal is chosen. Champion of the Light instead connects Intellect to spell damage and healing; it is not a direct weapon-damage bonus. Sanctified Judgement can return some of the judged Seal's Mana cost. Compare the costs of the whole sequence before treating Seal changes as free.[1]

Blessings: distinguish long buffs from short utility

The observed Kings, Might, Wisdom, and Salvation descriptions last one hour. Freedom and Protection are short utility effects, not one-hour buffs. The records also retain the one-Blessing-per-Paladin limit on a target, so communicate which buff each Paladin will supply.[1]

Reading other Paladin guides

Icy Veins usefully organizes healing, tanking, and Seal interactions, but its claims about sustained Mana and multi-party healing remain expectations. Its broad one-hour Blessing wording needs the short-utility exceptions above. It agrees with the community Hammer of Wrath reading of Instrument of Law; that does not resolve the different spell named in Blizzard's prose.[3]

Plan a beta test

Beta issues: Vengeance's periodic-critical activation and Holy Strike rank scaling await a future beta fix.[4]

These are suggested checks for learning the class and collecting useful evidence; they are not claims about the strongest build.

  • For tanking, check the Seal, Judgement, shield, and Righteous Fury requirements as a sequence; do not assume a single modern-WoW taunt button.
  • For a melee and spell hybrid, compare which talents modify weapon attacks, spell damage, healing, or Mana. They are not interchangeable bonuses.
  • For healing, record spell rank and target conditions when testing efficiency; a beta tooltip alone cannot establish a final healing rotation.

Race choice

Use the Paladin race list to separate officially announced additions from the broader beta roster. Follow the linked race guides for recorded racials; a racial tooltip does not establish a universal best choice.

What remains unresolved

There is a source conflict to resolve: Blizzard’s Deep Dive prose calls the talent Instrument of the Law and describes an instant Holy Wrath; the pinned Instrument of Law tooltip instead modifies Hammer of Wrath. This guide does not silently merge those descriptions.[2][1]

For corrections, record the game build, character level, spell or talent rank, and the observed interaction. Follow Project:Data policy and compare against Paladin talents before replacing beta information.
