Developer overview reviewed October 13
Blizzard describes incoming-damage Rage ignoring armor and absorption, including Power Word: Shield. Outgoing-damage Rage is based on weapon speed. Recklessness, Retaliation and Shield Wall have separate cooldowns; the latter two are described as 15 minutes. The article acknowledges Rage bugs, so this is developer guidance rather than a measured formula.[2]
The overview supplies no exact client build. It does not replace the dated talent records or establish the delivery date of every described change. Earlier source disagreements remain visible below.
October 9 talent and spellbook review
The export generated 8 October now attributes all Warrior talent ranks to client build 70291. Its author says the earlier October 1–2 hotfix changes are present in these files; this source attribution is separate from independent gameplay verification. The October 8 provenance and discrepancy sections below remain historical evidence.[3]
- Impale requires three points in Deep Wounds. Check this prerequisite before rebuilding an older allocation in Talent planner. This corrects our previous dependency coverage; it does not establish that the requirement first entered the game in 70291.
- Spearing Strike explicitly dismounts mounted targets in its current tooltip.
- The new client attribution does not by itself settle the earlier Dual Wield Specialization and Improved Slam disagreements. Their record pages preserve the source comparison, and the historical conflict notes remain available.
- Warrior spellbook uses the new 70291 source within its existing level-1–20 selection.[3]
October 8 record review
The Warrior source combines build 70170 extraction with community-provided October hotfix corrections; these are not all raw client fields. The pinned export was generated 7 October. Differences below compare it with the previous wiki snapshot; the review date is not a game-patch date.[4]
- Lingering Rage, Furious Precision and Gore Drinker are new names in the refreshed source. Boundless Rage, Improved Cleave, Precision and Toughness remain historical references.
- Bloodthirst now records 45% Attack Power plus the reference-level flat amount. Raging Blows reduces both Cleave and Whirlwind costs by 3 Rage. Blood Craze no longer lists Bloodthirst as a trigger.
- Bastion is now row 6, column 3; Focused Rage is row 5, column 3. The current export therefore supersedes the older layout disagreement below.
- Dual Wield Specialization and Improved Slam retain explicit discrepancies between the licensed community correction and official notes. Do not silently combine their conflicting numbers.[4]
Use Warrior talents for current ranks and prerequisites and Warrior spellbook for the bounded spell selection.
Earlier guide snapshot
The following sections were last reviewed on 2026-09-27. Their original citations and observations remain historical context; the update above and individual record pages identify later differences.
Changes from the demo
The earlier beta export has 53 Warrior talents and omits Vitality. The build 70009 licensed export still puts Bastion in row 5, column 4 and Focused Rage in row 6, column 3. Blizzard's September 24 notes announce a swap, so the announced layout and this exported layout disagree. See Project:Talent data; the wiki has not verified the swap in-game.[5][6]
The beta spell records list baseline Tactical Mastery at level 14 and Victory Rush at level 20. Bloodthirst now lists both damage and a 10% movement-speed benefit lasting ten seconds. These descriptions identify client data, not a tested optimal rotation.[1]
Queueing Heroic Strike or Cleave disables the spell queue window.[7]
For source-listed learning levels 1–20, see Warrior spellbook. Its tables exclude Classic fallback tooltips and explain the source’s level-60 tooltip context.
Choose a reading path
The following is an editorial route through the beta talent data, not a recommended point allocation.[1]
| Talent tree | What to compare | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Arms | Weapon attacks, bleeding targets, and stance changes. Read the interaction between Rend and Overpower before comparing weapon talents. | Bloodthrill, Weaponmaster, Spearing Strike, Mortal Strike |
| Fury | Off-hand attacks, Rage capacity, and repeated melee pressure. Compare the conditions on Rage generation rather than treating every resource bonus as equivalent. | Dual Wield Specialization (Warrior), Boundless Rage, Raging Blows, Bloodthirst |
| Protection | Shield-dependent defenses and threat tools. Equipment requirements matter when comparing an offensive talent with a defensive one. | Master of Defense, Vanguard, Bastion, Shield Slam |
Abilities and changes worth checking
These summaries use the cited beta records. Baseline spells and talents are identified separately; older demo observations are called out when used.[1]
- Victory Rush. The snapshot records a baseline attack that heals after a qualifying kill. It belongs in the spellbook discussion rather than the talent list.
- Tactical Mastery. The beta spellbook places basic Rage retention in the spellbook. Improved Tactical Mastery is the separate Arms investment that extends it.
- Thunder Clap and Shield Block. The transcription allows Thunder Clap in Defensive Stance and records two baseline Shield Block charges. Both are worth checking before importing an old Classic tanking routine.
Plan a beta session
These are suggested checks for learning the class and collecting useful evidence; they are not claims about the strongest build.
- For a stance-changing setup, record Rage immediately before and after each stance change; separate the baseline passive from talent bonuses.
- For a shield setup, keep the shield requirement in view when comparing Master of Defense, Bastion, and offensive alternatives.
- For Spearing Strike, distinguish ordinary targets, the named creature types, and mounted players. A situational effect is not a universal damage increase.
Race choice
Use the Warrior race list to separate officially announced additions from the broader preview roster. Follow the linked race guides for recorded racials; a racial tooltip does not establish a universal best choice.
How the beta talent data fits together
Talent evidence: The cited beta export supplies source-confirmed text for every rank of this class's current talents. That verifies the source text, not live behavior or final balance. Earlier demo estimates do not override the beta records; any separately labeled unverified observation still needs a rank and build check.[1]
Icy Veins draws attention to stance access, weapon choice, and shield requirements. Its discussion of future Rage formulas and world buffs is predictive. The examples below follow recorded Forever descriptions.[8][1]
Arms: distinguish the condition from the trigger
The beta Bloodthrill description requires a target affected by your Rend, but build 70009 specifies a Main Hand melee attack against that target. The five ranks give a 4–20% chance to enable Overpower for six seconds. Rend's periodic damage is not the listed trigger.[5]
Weaponmaster changes its effect by weapon group: Axe/Polearm affects critical chance, Mace/Staff affects armor ignored, and Sword can grant an extra attack. This baseline weapon comparison retains its earlier source.[1]
Build 70009's Improved Slam reduces Slam's cast time and global cooldown by 0.25/0.50 seconds, reduces its cooldown by 1.5/3 seconds, and says Slam no longer interrupts or delays the melee swing. The baseline rank-1 spell record lists an 18-second cooldown and learning at level 20. The talent reduces that cooldown; it does not remove it.[5]
Fury: resource capacity is different from income
Boundless Rage increases how much Rage you can hold. Dual Wield Specialization modifies off-hand damage, hit chance, and Rage generation. Raging Blows adds the off-hand strike to Whirlwind and reduces Cleave's Rage cost. These solve different problems: capacity, generating resources, and spending them. A larger Rage maximum does not itself generate more Rage.[1]
Protection: check the shield and stance first
Master of Defense can generate Rage after a Dodge or Parry while a shield is equipped; Bastion also requires a shield for its damage benefit. Vanguard permits Charge in Defensive Stance. Its tooltip does not grant in-combat use, so that behavior must not be assumed from another edition's similarly themed talent.[1]
Focused Rage reduces offensive ability costs. Combined with the recorded Defensive Stance access for Thunder Clap, it gives several resource and action choices to examine when testing a pull. This is an explanation of available tools, not a claim that every enemy pack can be controlled safely.[1]
Defensive cooldowns and solo recovery
The beta Shield Wall text requires Defensive Stance and lists 60% damage reduction for 12 seconds with a 15-minute cooldown. An earlier demo observation reported Shield Wall available while Retaliation was cooling down. That observation does not establish every current cooldown pairing or equipment requirement; check those in the beta client.[1]
Victory Rush is recorded as a baseline attack with healing after a qualifying kill. Before depending on it between pulls, check that the previous kill activated it and that its use window is still open. Its conditional healing cannot be treated as an on-demand heal available throughout a boss fight.[1]
What remains unresolved
The exact live Rage-generation formula and level-60 damage ordering are not established by this guide. Intercept illustrates why demo omissions were inconclusive: the beta spell data lists its first rank at level 30, despite its absence from an earlier level-38 demo spellbook.[1]
World-buff availability and their final effect on Warrior damage also remain unverified here. The Icy Veins comparison with later expansions is not evidence that Forever uses those expansions' formulas.[8]
For corrections, record the game build, character level, spell or talent rank, and the observed interaction. Follow Project:Data policy and compare against Warrior talents before replacing build-specific information.
