Warlock

From World of Warcraft Forever Wiki
Revision as of 14:52, 8 October 2026 by WikiAdmin (talk | contribs) (Refresh sourced Forever beta references and add PvP and Excavation Site research)

Latest source review: 8 October 2026. The new section summarizes the current licensed records. Earlier guide sections retain their stated snapshots and may describe superseded behavior. This is source research, not an independent playtest.

Warlock — The Warlock beta data uses Mana, demons, damage-over-time effects, and several abilities involving Soul Shards. Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction organize different interactions between those systems.[1]

October 8 record review

The pinned export was generated 7 October. Differences below compare it with the previous wiki snapshot; the review date is not a game-patch date.[2]

  • Soul Harvest replaces the earlier Soul Harvesting record. It describes increased Mana regeneration after killing a non-trivial target affected by Drain Soul, with 50/100% regeneration continuing while casting for 10 seconds.
  • Demonic Sacrifice retains the client effects. Newly added podcast commentary in the source was excluded from this written-source review.[2]

Use Warlock talents for current ranks and prerequisites and Warlock spellbook for the bounded spell selection.

Earlier guide snapshot

The following sections were last reviewed on 2026-09-19. Their original citations and observations remain historical context; the update above and individual record pages identify later differences.

Changes from the demo

Wrack replaces Drain Hope as the Affliction talent name in the beta export. Improved Drains and Soul Siphon also change effects, as explained below. Conflagrate no longer lists Shadowburn as a prerequisite. The class still has 52 named talents.[1]

The beta Drain Soul description permits a Soul Shard chance when it damages a non-trivial target and guarantees one if Drain Soul kills that target. Life Tap's text now also identifies Spirit as increasing Mana gained. No shard probability or Spirit formula is inferred from those descriptions.[1]

Blizzard flags Firestone rank 3–4 tooltips and pet-stat displays.[3]

For source-listed learning levels 1–20, see Warlock spellbook. Its tables exclude Classic fallback tooltips and explain the source’s level-60 tooltip context.

Choose a reading path

The following is an editorial route through the beta talent data, not a recommended point allocation.[1]

Talent tree What to compare Start with
Affliction Persistent effects, drains, and effects that depend on what is already on the target. Distinguish the number of qualifying effects from raw spell damage. Improved Drains, Pandemic, Soul Siphon, Wrack
Demonology Demon-specific bonuses, summoning, and sacrifice interactions. Check which demon must be active or sacrificed for a particular effect. Improved Sayaad, Demonic Sacrifice, Soul Link, Demonic Pact
Destruction Direct Fire and Shadow spells and interactions involving Immolate or resources. Read the trigger and the resulting school bonus separately. Conflagrate, Bane of Havoc, Shadow and Flame, Incinerate

Abilities and changes worth checking

These summaries use the cited beta records. Baseline spells and talents are identified separately; older demo observations are called out when used.[1]

  • Banes and Curses. The preview export separates the two categories and records simultaneous use of one of each. It identifies Bane of Agony as the renamed former Curse of Agony.
  • Subjugate Demon. The export records this as the renamed Enslave Demon. A renamed ability should not automatically be counted as an additional spell.
  • Incubus. Recorded as a separately named summon alongside the Succubus; the Demonology references include the shared Sayaad terminology.

Plan a beta session

These are suggested checks for learning the class and collecting useful evidence; they are not claims about the strongest build.

  • For Affliction, distinguish Improved Drains' direct bonus from Soul Siphon's effect-counting bonus when comparing targets with different debuffs.
  • For Demonology, record the sacrificed demon and the newly summoned demon separately before testing Demonic Pact.
  • For Destruction, track whether Conflagrate consumes Immolate and whether Shadowburn returns a Soul Shard at the tested talent rank.

Race choice

Use the Warlock race list to separate officially announced additions from the broader preview roster. Follow the linked race guides for recorded racials; a racial tooltip does not establish a universal best choice.

How the beta talent data fits together

Talent evidence: The cited beta export supplies source-confirmed text for every rank of this class's current talents. That verifies the source text, not live behavior or final balance. Earlier demo estimates do not override the beta records; any separately labeled unverified observation still needs a rank and build check.[1]

Crix's Icy Veins report describes hands-on level-38 testing and inspection of higher-level trainer entries. That is useful preview evidence, but a trainer listing does not measure a finished level-60 build.[4]

Affliction: distinguish damage, criticals, and recovery

Wrack temporarily strengthens your other Shadow damage-over-time effects on its target. Improved Drains instead supplies a direct 7%/13%/20% bonus to Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack at its three ranks. Pandemic concerns the critical-damage bonus of a named set of spells. These descriptions should not be merged into a single universal modifier for every periodic effect.[1]

Soul Siphon now increases Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack according to your other Affliction effects on the target: 4%/8%/12% per effect, capped at 12%/24%/36% by rank. This replaces the demo's drain-speed and reduced-healing description. Do not carry that earlier trade-off into the beta rotation.[1]

Demonology: keep track of both demons

Demonic Sacrifice consumes the summoned demon for a benefit determined by its type. Ordinarily, summoning a demon ends that benefit. Demonic Pact changes the rule: a different demon can stay active alongside the sacrifice effect, while resummoning the sacrificed type still ends it. Record both the sacrificed and active demon when comparing setups.[1]

Demonic Energies connects your spell damage and Life Tap to your pet's health and Mana. Demonic Brand lowers the Warlock's Searing Pain threat and gives the pet a limited number of enhanced, high-threat follow-up attacks. Neither talent proves that the pet can safely tank a particular group encounter.[1]

Destruction: check the target and damage school

Incinerate gains damage against an Immolated target. Shadow and Flame connects Conflagrate to a Shadow-damage benefit and Shadowburn to a Fire-damage benefit; it also changes Immolate consumption and shard refunds according to rank. A Soul Shard refund is not the same as removing every other cost.[1]

Bane of Havoc transfers a share of the Warlock's damage to other targets onto the marked enemy. The recorded limit permits one Havoc target, and only one Bane from that Warlock on a given target. It is a reason to watch which enemy carries which Bane, especially near controlled enemies.[1]

Spellstones and rank-specific measurements

The recorded rank-1 Create Spellstone makes a weapon enchant providing spell haste and Shadow spell damage. Its school restriction matters when comparing Fire and Shadow abilities. Create Firestone now also has beta-derived text: its rank-1 weapon enchant gives 1% spell critical chance and up to 10 Fire spell damage. Those are different school-specific benefits, not universal Spell Power.[1]

Icy Veins reports that haste did not speed periodic damage or drain channels in its tested demo. That observation needs a build-specific beta recheck before it becomes a permanent stat rule; no final haste ranking is assigned here.[4]

New race option

Blizzard explicitly announced Troll Warlocks.[5] Use the racial guides to compare recorded abilities and their conditions. A strong racial tooltip alone does not decide a race ranking.

What remains unresolved

Demon rankings, shard drop frequency and storage behavior, leveling efficiency, and a final damage-over-time priority list need separate tests. The existence of Soul Link does not by itself establish a supported tank role.

For corrections, record the game build, character level, spell or talent rank, and the observed interaction. Follow Project:Data policy and compare against Warlock talents before replacing build-specific information.
