Paladin
Paladin — The Paladin preview combines Mana, weapon attacks, Holy damage, healing, and shield tools. Its Holy, Protection, and Retribution trees share several abilities, so a tree name alone does not describe every supported interaction.[1]
Browse all 52 Paladin talents with icons, ranks, prerequisites, and individual source notes.
Choose a reading path
The following is an editorial route through the preview, not a recommended point allocation.[1]
| Talent tree | What to compare | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Holy | Healing and spell support, with Holy Strike and Holy Shock also represented. Inspect what each talent affects before treating it as a healing-only choice. | Healing Light, Reverence, Holy Shock, Light's Vigil |
| Protection | Seals, shields, Holy Strike threat, and defensive cooldowns. Read the active-condition text, especially requirements involving Righteous Fury. | Improved Seal of Fury, Sacred Duty, Templar's Bulwark, Iron Creed, Holy Shield |
| Retribution | Melee attacks, Seals, Judgement, and Holy spell interactions. Mana costs and the timing of Seal effects are part of the comparison. | Vindication, Sanctified Judgement, Sacred Arbiter, Champion of the Light, Twist of Light |
Abilities and changes worth checking
These are summarized from the pinned community demo transcription. Baseline spells and talents are identified separately where the source supports that distinction.[1]
- Judgement and Seal of Fury. The preview transcription says Judgement leaves the active Seal in place; judging Seal of Fury supplies the taunt. Read these together when planning how to recover an enemy attacking an ally.
- Holy Strike. Recorded as a baseline weapon strike with a Holy component. Different trees then modify its cooldown, threat, or interaction with other effects.
- Blessing of Kings and Consecration. Both appear as trainable abilities in the preview export rather than purchases in these talent trees.
Plan a first beta session
These are suggested checks for learning the class and collecting useful evidence; they are not claims about the strongest build.
- For tanking, check the Seal, Judgement, shield, and Righteous Fury requirements as a sequence; do not assume a single modern-WoW taunt button.
- For a melee and spell hybrid, compare which talents modify weapon attacks, spell damage, healing, or Mana. They are not interchangeable bonuses.
- For healing, record spell rank and target conditions when testing efficiency; a preview tooltip alone cannot establish a final healing rotation.
Race choice
Use the Paladin race list to separate officially announced additions from the broader preview roster. Follow the linked race guides for recorded racials; a racial tooltip does not establish a universal best choice.
What remains unresolved
There is a source conflict to resolve: Blizzard’s Deep Dive prose calls the talent Instrument of the Law and describes an instant Holy Wrath; the pinned Instrument of Law tooltip instead modifies Hammer of Wrath. This guide does not silently merge those descriptions.[2]
For corrections, record the game build, character level, spell or talent rank, and the observed interaction. Follow Project:Data policy and compare against Paladin talents before replacing preview information.
