Ruins of Lordaeron is a new World of Warcraft Forever dungeon with an announced level band of 15–20.[1] Its setting concerns the Forsaken reclaiming the ruins.[2] Blizzard included it in the opening beta week.[3]
This article covers the Forever instance, not the outdoor ruins or a similarly named location from another edition. See Beta guide for testing scope and Dungeons for the other announced dungeons.
Before you go
Check outside quest pickups before traveling; keep boss drops separate from quest choices. Review event preparation before interacting with objects. Dungeon checklists provides a personal preparation list; the Captain’s uncertain spawn rule is not a required completion step.
Entrance and access
The written Icy Veins guide places the entrance on the left side of the ruins entrance at Undercity.[4] The exterior ruins belong to Tirisfal Glades; the instance has its own client map, 2999.[5]
Party capacity is 5 in the matching build 1.60.1.70009 difficulty record.[6] The announced level band is not a verified door requirement. Quest faction restrictions also do not establish an instance faction lock.
Encounters
The written beta guide describes six regular bosses and one rare. These concise encounter notes follow that guide; table order is not a mandatory route.[4]
| Encounter | Preparation and response |
|---|---|
| Witherfang | Watch the entrance patrol and Broodlings; expect poison on the tank. |
| The Baron | Melee stay behind Cleave. Tanks recover threat after knockback; leave room away from other packs. |
| Viktor the Vile | The southwest Grim Campfire starts skeleton waves. Conserve resources for the boss. |
| The Abandoned | The western statue event has three waves. Interrupt Drain Life; expect roots. |
| Bjork | Allow space for knockback in the northwest corridor. |
| Rath'mael | Clear nearby enemies; interrupt Flamestrike and prepare for area damage. |
Rare encounter: Lordaeron Captain
Lordaeron Captain has Forever creature ID 255699; quest giver Captain Truman has the separate ID 265701.[7] Do not confuse the rare with the Alliance quest giver.
Icy Veins reports the rare as friendly to Alliance and attackable by Horde.[4] A written player report describes finding it in the northwest after a full clear.[8] That observation does not prove that a full clear is required to spawn it. Exact spawn conditions and faction reactions still need a dated in-game check.
Client names and guide names
Build 70009 contains seven DungeonEncounter records for this map. One uses The Butcher (3355), whereas the written guide and the Forever creature record use The Baron (250660).[9][10] An encounter ID is not a creature ID. The wiki preserves this discrepancy and does not treat client ordering fields as a tested route or assume a confirmed rename.
Quest preparation
The written quest guide groups its entries as six Horde and four Alliance. This includes separate faction versions of Crest of Lordaeron; a chain may contain additional individual quest records.[11]
| Faction | Quest | Reported pickup or start |
|---|---|---|
| Horde | A Frightened Request | Tabitha Heartweaver, Silverpine Forest |
| Horde | Light's Justice | Morbin Lightbane, Undercity |
| Horde | The New Plague | Theodore Griffs, Undercity |
| Horde | The Wrath of Rath'mael | Deathguard Kristof, Tirisfal |
| Horde | Unending Torment | Abominable Head from The Baron; starts a chain |
| Horde | Crest of Lordaeron | Dungeon object; deliver to Oran Snakewrithe |
| Alliance | Abominable Creatures | Captain Truman, inside |
| Alliance | Bloodied Insignia | Skeleton drop |
| Alliance | Remember That I Love You | Blood-Stained Letter near Rath'mael |
| Alliance | Crest of Lordaeron | Dungeon object; deliver to Lady Dena Kennedy |
Pick up outside quests before entering and check your character's acceptance conditions. Links to numbered database records identify the quest; they do not certify current availability. The curated A Frightened Request and Light's Justice pages include objectives, reported rewards and troubleshooting.
Reported loot
These examples come from Sammyx3's written Forever beta loot report. They are reported boss associations, not verified drop rates or a complete loot table.[12]
| Encounter | Example reported reward |
|---|---|
| Witherfang | Segmented Spider Leg |
| The Baron | Meathook Slicer |
| Viktor the Vile | Vileblood Scimitar |
| The Abandoned | Scepter of the Abandoned |
| Bjork | Corpse Chopper |
| Rath'mael | Coldspire Staff |
| Lordaeron Captain | Haunting Blade; Phantom Armor |
Some armor names differ between the written sources. Those disputed names, item statistics and drop chances are omitted here pending exact tooltip or item-ID evidence. Quest rewards are separate from this boss-drop list.

Client check: 9 October 2026
The archived 1.60.1.70245 export still pairs map 2999 with a five-player difficulty row 6013.[13] The historical encounter names below remain present in the newer DungeonEncounter table.[14] These checks cover client identity and capacity only; gameplay tactics retain their separately stated source dates.

Evidence still needed
Build-tagged entrance coordinates and entry requirements; Baron versus Butcher identity; Rare Captain spawn conditions and faction reactions; Item tooltips and drop observations; Quest acceptance requirements
Unresolved source conflict: The guide and creature record name The Baron; the client encounter record names The Butcher.
Record the Forever build, observation date, and a source or screenshot. Update the article and remove only the tasks your evidence resolves.
Evidence and limits
Written Forever sources were reviewed on 27 September 2026; no video was used. Client checks explicitly identify build 70009, while the guides and player reports do not supply their gameplay builds. The wiki has not completed an in-game run. Announcements, raw client fields and reported gameplay each retain their own citations and limits.
