Beta reference · reviewed 19 September 2026. Talent descriptions and identified spell records use community-extracted data from Forever beta build 1.60.1.69876. Earlier demo observations are labeled separately. Source confirmation means the text was checked against the cited data; this wiki has not independently tested these mechanics in-game.

Priest — The Priest beta data contains Mana-based healing, shields, and Shadow spells. Discipline, Holy, and Shadow are separate reading paths, while changes to formerly race-specific spells also affect character selection.[1]

Browse all 53 Priest talents with icons, ranks, prerequisites, and individual source notes.

Beta changes and known issues

The beta tree uses the name Shadow rather than the demo label Shadow Magic. All 53 named talents remain present, with complete rank text in the cited export. This is stronger text evidence than the earlier incomplete transcription, but does not establish healing rankings.[1]

Starshards ignores Twilight Focus; Blizzard plans a next-build fix.[2]

For source-listed learning levels 1–20, see Priest spellbook. Its tables exclude Classic fallback tooltips and explain the source’s level-60 tooltip context.

Choose a reading path

The following is an editorial route through the beta talent data, not a recommended point allocation.[1]

Talent tree What to compare Start with
Discipline Shields, Mana, and healing interactions involving Weakened Soul. Read which spells are explicitly named by each modifier. Soul Warding, Penance, Renewed Hope, Divine Aegis
Holy Direct and periodic healing with several different target patterns. Compare who receives each heal and when it occurs. Binding Heal, Litany of Light, Spiritual Healing, Prayer of Mending
Shadow Shadow damage, threat management, resource recovery, and target-death interactions. Devouring Contagion is worth reading alongside the spellbook change to Devouring Plague. Spirit Tap, Shadow Affinity, Devouring Contagion, Early Demise, Shadowform

Abilities and changes worth checking

These summaries use the cited beta records. Baseline spells and talents are identified separately; older demo observations are called out when used.[1]

  • Fear Ward. The source lists Fear Ward as a normal Priest spell, first available at level 20. Choosing a race solely to obtain Classic’s version of Fear Ward would use the wrong premise.
  • Devouring Plague. Recorded as an ordinary Shadow spell instead of an Undead-only Priest ability. Devouring Contagion adds a further interaction in the Shadow tree.
  • Shadow Word: Death. The beta spell data lists rank 1 at level 32. It also lists backlash equal to 10% of maximum health when the target survives; plan around that cost. Early Demise modifies critical chance against low-health targets.

Plan a beta session

These are suggested checks for learning the class and collecting useful evidence; they are not claims about the strongest build.

  • When comparing Discipline talents, record whether Weakened Soul is present; Renewed Hope has target conditions rather than a universal benefit.
  • For Shadow, distinguish a target-death trigger from a direct damage increase when assessing Devouring Contagion.
  • Read the race preview separately from class-wide spells. The export also records Priest racial spells; verify the selected race and spellbook instead of assuming Classic exclusivity.

Race choice

Use the Priest race list to separate officially announced additions from the broader preview roster. Follow the linked race guides for recorded racials; a racial tooltip does not establish a universal best choice.

How the beta talent data fits together

Talent evidence: The cited beta export supplies source-confirmed text for every rank of this class's current talents. That verifies the source text, not live behavior or final balance. Earlier demo estimates do not override the beta records; any separately labeled unverified observation still needs a rank and build check.[1]

Icy Veins usefully separates shielding, direct healing, and Shadow damage when introducing the class. Its overview remains a BlizzCon preview; the interactions here are checked against the separately attributed Forever transcription.[3][1]

Discipline: follow the shield and its target

Soul Warding changes the cost and cooldown of Power Word: Shield. Renewed Hope then affects a named set of direct heals cast on someone with Weakened Soul, adding critical chance and shortening the debuff. Divine Aegis supplies another kind of protection after a critical heal. These are separate triggers: an ordinary heal, a critical heal, and a heal on a target with Weakened Soul should be evaluated separately.[1]

Penance can heal a friendly target or damage an enemy. Its presence does not establish a mechanic that converts all damage into healing. Divine Spirit is a normal Priest spell in Forever, which Blizzard also confirms; obtaining that buff does not require the old Discipline talent investment.[1][4]

Holy: choose who needs the next heal

Binding Heal treats the caster and another friendly target together. Prayer of Mending waits for damage or non-periodic healing, then moves to a nearby group member after activating. The recorded spell has a limit on jumps and permits only one active target per caster. Litany of Light rewards changing healing spells relative to the previous heal; choosing a different spell simply to trigger it can still be wasteful if that heal is unnecessary. This is a reading of the talent conditions, not a measured healing rotation.[1]

Shadow: manage Mana and form restrictions

The beta description of Shadowform reduces Shadow spell Mana costs and prevents casting healing spells. Shadow Weaving increases the Priest's own Shadow damage; it should not be described as a universal Shadow-damage debuff for everyone. Vampiric Embrace supplies a separate party-healing interaction and can enable Spirit Tap after an affected enemy dies.[1]

The Icy Veins introduction mentions Insanity, but that resource description is unsupported by the inspected Forever beta spellbook. This guide follows the recorded Mana costs and Shadowform text.[3][1]

Priest spells that depend on race

Blizzard explicitly announced Gnome Priest access.[4] The race pairings were first observed in the demo; the beta spell records supply the current descriptions below. They are separate from each race's general racial abilities. Training availability and tuning still require in-game verification.[1]

Race Recorded Priest spells Practical distinction
Human Divine Grace; Feedback Divine Grace heals another ally below half health and removes Weakened Soul; the recorded version cannot target the caster. Feedback reacts to spells hitting the Priest.
Dwarf Chastise; Desperate Prayer Chastise controls a Humanoid with a brief root. Desperate Prayer heals the caster. Fear Ward is available across Priest races.
Night Elf Elune's Grace; Starshards Elune's Grace reduces incoming melee and ranged hit chance, with both a duration and a three-miss limit. Starshards is channeled Arcane damage.
Gnome Confounding Flash; Contingency Plan Confounding Flash is nearby crowd control broken by damage. Contingency Plan places a ward that responds to a hit taking its ally below 35% health with absorption and healing; its text does not promise resurrection or immunity to a lethal hit.
Undead Dark Sacrifice; Touch of Weakness Dark Sacrifice exchanges the Priest's health for Mana over time. The beta rank-1 record exchanges 440 health for 440 Mana, superseding the unequal amounts in the older demo transcription. Touch of Weakness responds to the next incoming melee attack.
Troll Hex of Weakness; Shadowguard Hex of Weakness reduces melee attack power and received healing. Shadowguard retaliates against qualifying hits using a limited set of charges.

What remains unresolved

Healing throughput rankings, complete race-specific spell progression, and how shields interact with a Warrior's incoming Rage generation need beta evidence. The Races pages summarize general racials; the table above covers the separate Priest spells.

For corrections, record the game build, character level, spell or talent rank, and the observed interaction. Follow Project:Data policy and compare against Priest talents before replacing build-specific information.
